Five Things You Need To Do Before Summer’s Over

Filed Under: Nautical News Tagged With: Beaches, BOOKS

#1 is Get to the BEACH! If you haven’t done an annual pilgrimage yet (or even if you have can you go to the beach too much?). Most of us had a long, hard winter with lots of ice and snow and freezing temps. So treat yourself to some sun and fun…

#2. See a beach movie or mini-series, such as Beach Girls (starring Julia Ormond), How To Stuff A Wild Bikini (classic Annette & Frankie), Teen Beach Movie, Shag (starring Phoebe Cates and Bridget Fonda), and Disney’s Little Mermaid.

#3. Have a beach theme cook out with everyone coming in their favorite beach clothes (flip flops, shades, visors, Hawaiian shirts–you get the idea) and decorate with tiki torches, beach balls, and seashells around small pails of sand with citronella candles on top of the sand. Food ideas: grill some fresh fish, peel and eat shrimp, hushpuppies, fruit salad and make your own ice cream or smores.

#4. Buy a bathing suit. Yes! Yes! yes! Get rid of that ratty old thing you swore you were going to throw out at the end of last season (but didn’t because the thought of bathing suit shopping was just too much). Now’s the time for the best bargains since summer’s nearly over, but the stores still have a good selection of the latest and greatest suits. Treat yourself to a new cover up too. You’ll be glad you did this come next summer (or when you snag a great cruise deal or island getaway from one of my Terrance’s Trip Pick of the Week deals).

#5. Even if you can’t get to the beach you can bring the beach to you by reading a beach book. Here are a few ideas:beach book 6
