The investigation: Last month I participated in a night ghost hunt that was the best I’ve ever been on. We investigated Goodsprings, an abandoned mining town in the Nevada desert. One of the few buildings still in existence is the Pioneer Saloon, which was built in 1913. We had a delicious dinner here and learned more about its fascinating history before we began our investigation. The saloon is more than 100 years old and so a lot has transpired here. Legendary actor, Clark Cable, waited in the Pioneer Saloon for three days for word about his wife, Carole Lombard. She was lost in a plane crash near Mount Potosi on January 16, 1942. It took three days for the mules and men to retrieve the twenty-two bodies that had been on board. The spirit of Carole Lombard is believed that one of the ghosts who haunts this place. Another spirit is Paul Coski, who was shot and killed during a poker game on July 3, 1915. You can still see the bullet holes in the wall of the saloon. These are just a couple of the spirits that can be found at the Pioneer Saloon. We also investigated an old mining cabin, the old schoolhouse, and the cemetery.
What we used to investigate:
*EMF detectors
*Temperature guns
*Spirit Box
*Cameras
*Dousing rods
The results: I saw more paranormal activity during this investigation than during all my previous investigations combined. All of our equipment supported supernatural activity. We got readings on our temperature guns as low as twenty-two degrees in a couple of places at the schoolhouse and playground. A light mysteriously turned on and then off a few seconds later inside the closed down schoolhouse. We got answers to most of our questions on the spirit box. The EMF detectors went crazy inside the saloon and also near the old mine (although the latter wasn’t due to anything paranormal). We communicated with at least one spirit through the dousing rods. I have never used these before, but I will definitely use this tool again. We asked questions that involved the spirits moving the rods to the left or right if their answer was yes or no. Roughly seventy-five percent of the time there was movement. I tried the same thing at home and a few other places at a later date and got no results from the rods.
However, the biggest proof was the SIGHTING. We saw a shadowy figure that was definitely not human inside the old mining cabin. Because it is a historic site, you cannot go into the cabin. There is a fence around its perimeter and the front of the building is open so that visitors can see inside the cabin. We stood facing the front of the cabin and a spirit appeared after we asked if “Old Joe” would show himself (Our research had indicated that the cabin was haunted by an old miner named Joe). Almost immediately after the figure appeared, he raised his arm. We are, however, divided as to what he did. Some of us swear he gestured to us (as if to tell us to come inside) and some think he simply waved. But there is no doubt we saw a ghost!
So between all the data we collected during our five-hour investigation (not to mention the ghost sighting), our conclusion is that Goodsprings is definitely haunted and probably by multiple ghosts. Here’s a link to the Goodsprings Wikipedia page, which provides other useful links and more photos.
