AWJ #25: Six Things You Need to Know About Writing a Book Series

Filed Under: A Writer's Journey, Author News Tagged With: A WRITER'S JOURNEY, BOOKS, Podcast, Publishing, Writing

Attention All Writers and Wanna Be Writers!

My co-host, Sara Whitford, and I are back again with another episode of A Writer’s Journey: From Blank Page to Published. At the end of the second season, we made a decision that we would only record special topical episodes. This is because we feel like we covered everything you need to know about how to write a book and a great deal about publishing in Seasons One & Two. I have made a list of special topics I think we should address going forward and writing a series is at the top of the list. There are six things you must do BEFORE YOU GET STARTED if you’re going to have a successful book series. Sarah has just completed book #4 in her popular historical fiction series, Adam Fletcher Adventure Series, and I have written so many series that I can’t give you an exact number off the top of my head! Here’s a link if you’re interested in checking them out. Suffice it to say, you’ll want to listen up if you’re planning to write a series.

You can listen to this episode (or any of our shows) on iTunes and I have all our podcasts archived on my site.

start-writing-box-setFYI: November is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Writers are challenged to start and complete a 50,000-word novel between 11/1 – 11/30. In 2016, more than 200,000 are expected to participate in this ambitious challenge. Will you be one of them? I’m not a big fan of this concept because I believe that if you’ve never written a book it is nearly impossible to just sit down and crank out a novel worth reading in less than four weeks. It is hard enough to write a book (really hard work!) for experienced writers, but then to be given these parameters for doing so is unrealistic, in my opinion. That said, I like the idea of an event that encourages writing. So instead of just writing fast and furiously for the sake of a word count, use NaNoWriMo to launch your writing career. In other words, just make the commitment and take the plunge this month!

I have written a book that shares everything I have learned from being in this business for more than fifteen years. Being an award-winning and best-selling author of thirty-three books, I think I know a thing or two about how to write a book. Plus, I let you know what you shouldn’t do. I have made plenty of mistakes, I assure you! So if you’re interested, you can buy Stop Talking & Start Writing Your Book for just 0.99 on 11/3.

Or you can buy the entire collection of books in this handy box set at a deeply discounted price.

No matter what resource you utilize, I hope you will finally stop talking and start writing your book. Good Luck!
