Ghost Walks

Filed Under: Ghost Gallery, Ghost Tours & Haunted Attractions Tagged With: American Travel, Blackbeard, Ghosts, Pirates

Note: Most ghost walks are seasonal, take place at night, cost $8-18 for adults, and last 1-2 hours.

North Carolina

Appalachian Ghost Walks offers several options for those visiting western TN and NC. www.appalachianghostwalks.com

Beaufort (Eastern NC) Ghost Walk explores the Historic District. Expect to hear tales about the legendary Blackbeard, the famous Hammock House, and more. Beaufort is the third oldest city in North Carolina so it has a rich and colorful history.

Ghost and Haunt Tours (Western NC) takes place in downtown Asheville.

Ghost and Historic Walking Tour of Ocracoke Isand Village (Eastern NC at Outer Banks). This little village was once Blackbeard’s favorite pirate hangout.

New Bern Ghost Walk (Eastern NC) is offered just one weekend a year in late October, but it is well worth marking your calendar for this great effort put on by the New Bern Historical Society. www.newbernhistorical.org

Wilmington Ghost Walk (eastern NC) takes brave souls through its extensive Historic District filled with lingering spirits or you can opt for their Haunted Pub Crawl where you’re guaranteed to see ‘spirits’ before the night’s over!

South Carolina

Charleston Ghost Walk (Lowcountry SC). There is no doubt that one of the most haunted cities in the U.S. is Charleston. One of the best ways to discover its sinister past and lingering spirits is to take a ghost walk. Also visit oldcharlestontours.com. You can also try a Haunted Pub Crawl

Charleston’s Ghost Hunt Tour – Adults only.

Georgetown Ghost Walk (Lowcountry SC) explores the many ghosts that haunt this port city, which was once the leading exporter of rice in the world.

Ghosts and Legends of Charleston Tour.

Myrtle Beach Ghost Walk (Grand Strand, SC) takes place at the ultra-touristy Barefoot Landing filled with shops and shoppers rather than a quaint historic district. I recommend skipping the walk and watching their unique Ghost Show instead. Lots of places offer ghost walks but this is a concept that I have never seen before. You must see it to believe it! It is a fun show that is suitable for most ages. I promise you will love it! They also offer a séance if there are enough participants.

Georgia

FYI: If you’re already in the SC lowcountry, you may want to head a little farther south where you can find lots more ghosts in Savannah (GA). This is definitely one of the top ten most haunted cities in America.

Ghosts and Legends of Savannah – This 90-minute tour includes the cemtery and voodoo.

Savannah Tours offers several options, such as Savannah Scary Ghost Tour and their Haunted Trolley Tour. I loved the Haunted Trolley Tour, which includes admission to one of the most haunted houses in the city .

Trusted Tours offers a Ghosts and Gravestones Tour of Savannah.
