The grand Mount Washington Resort was a dream brought to life for self-made millionaire and New England native, Joseph Stickney. It took over two years, 250 Italian artisans, and $1.7 million dollars to build the hotel, which had its grand opening in 1902. Just one year after the hotel’s completion, Mr. Stickney died suddenly, leaving the hotel to his wife, Princess Carolyn, who continued to summer at the hotel every year until her own death, over a decade later. Or is she still here?
