It’s almost that time–time to howl for Halloween! This is my favorite time of year, but I still can’t believe that it’s almost Halloween. Where has the time gone? I meant to blog more and share more Halloween fun with all of you, but I have been so busy that Halloween has come too fast.
But the good news is that my hard work has resulted in two new ghost books hot off the press: A Ghost Hunter’s Guide to the Most Haunted Places in the World and Spookiest Military Bases, Ships, Museums, & Forts.
PETS & HALLOWEEN: I hope you have something fun planned. If not, it’s not too late and this post will offer some fun ideas. But first I want to share a fun statistic with you. Did you know that 16% of the population dress their pets in Halloween costumes? If you have a pet(s) and plan to put him in a costume, make sure that it is not too tight or that there are no small or dangling pieces that could choke or trip him. Be sure not to feed Fido Halloween candy as chocolate is toxic to dogs. Also, if you have a party or take your dog to a party, be sure not to let guests overfeed him. It seems that everyone wants to give my dog a treat and that can add up quickly and not be good for your dog. If you have a party, be sure to find a safe place for your dog if there is a chance he will bolt out the door. You should secure him in a room that is off limits to guests or in a crate.
CANDY & HALLOWEEN: $2.4 BILLION will be spent on candy and Halloween decorations in the U.S. If you want to be sure to have the most popular candy on hand, be sure to stock up on: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, Twix, Kit Kats, M & M’s (most popular worldwide), Nerds, Skittles, and Sour Patch Kids. Did you know that 25% of parents sneak their kids’ Halloween candy while they’re asleep or at school?
#1 HALLOWEEN HAUNTED ATTRACTION: Arasapha Farm in Glen Mills, PA (28 miles from Philadelphia) offers the scariest 3-in-1 Halloween attraction. From mid-September through October 31, brave souls can get scared witless during a 25-minute Haunted Hayride through a spooky forest full of giant monsters, a drive-through insane asylum, a 200-foot cave, classic New England church, Headless Horseman, and much more (25 scenes, 75 actors, and countless pyrotechnics & special effects)! Another scary attraction is their Bates Motel that is considered to be one of the most haunted manmade houses in America with its digital soundtrack, lighting, actors, and special efforts. We’re talking levitating spirits, floor boards that come alive, and animatronics you won’t believe! Childre under 8 are not allowed and those with a heart condition enter at their own risk. Lastly, there is their Revenge of the Scarecrows Haunted Corn Trail. This is one terrifying walk through a tall corn field full of nearly three dozen actors in creative costumes waiting to scare you like you’ve never been scared before! The cost is $15-$20pp or $40 for all three attractions. Discover why this has been rated one of the best haunted attractions in America by Travel Channel, HauntWorld, USA Today, Haunted Attractions Magazine, and Hauntfreaks.com.
HALLOWEEN IN NOVEMBER: If you are unable to do something on Halloween, you have a second chance on 11/16-18. Strange Escapes is offering a Haunted Masquerade Ball & Ghost Hunt at the Mount Washington Resort. Grant Wilson from GhostHunters will be in attendance, as well as other minor celebrities. There will be a cabaret show, a ball with live music, psychic readings, UFO watch, ghost investigation, Traveling Museum of the Paranormal & Occult, lectures, swag bags, meet & greets, and more!
HALLOWEEN RECIPE: A great seasonal idea for you and your family or co-workers or to take to a party for all ages is Halloween Chex Mix: You will need (3) 24-oz. packages of white chocolate baking bars coarsely chopped (in the baking aisle of any grocery store), (2) cups of Corn Chex, (2) cups of Rice Chex, (2) cups of small pretzel twists, 1/2 cup raisins, (1) cup candy corn, and 1/2 cup orange and black candy decors. Heat white chocolate in microwave until smooth and melted. Gently stir in all ingredients. Spread on wax paper or foil until cool and chocolate has set. Break into chunks. Can store covered for a week or longer. Set out in large bowl, in Halloween theme cupcake liners, or in Halloween theme bags or baggies. Serves 18. Can cut recipe in half or double. This is a yummy and festive looking treat!
HALLOWEEN AT HOME: It is also a lot of fun to stay at home on Halloween. You can watch scary movies or binge watch American Horror Story. You can also carve pumpkins and create Halloween recipes to enjoy. Pinterest literally has thousands of recipes and many are healthy too! Decorate your house to the max and enjoy the reactions of trick-or-treaters. If you have kids, Google some game ideas (like scavenger hunts and monster stations) or check out the chapter in my HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Whatever you choose to do, I hope you have a spooktacular time! I will be participating in a ghost hunt and will share my experience with you in early November.
