Just a reminder that as you head out for summer vacation, it is also hurricane season (June 1 – November 30). This is especially important to know if you’re planning to visit beaches in these places: Carolinas, Florida (pictured here is the Florida Keys Overseas Highway), Texas, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean islands. Although the northeast coast suffered hurricane damage recently, it is less likely than the southeastern seaboard and outlying islands. Judging by their hurricane history, some places that are especially vulnerable are North Carolina’s Outer Banks, South Carolina’s Lowcountry, and the Florida Keys.
A good suggestion is to stay tuned to the weather before and throughout your stay, especially if you’ll be flying (flight delays and cancellations).
Consider buying travel insurance.
If driving, know the evacuation route.
Be aware there can also be tornadoes, severe thunderstorms (flash flooding and lightening), and other extreme weather (wind gusts).
