Filed Under: Nautical News Tagged With: Festivals, Wilmington

Azalea-FestivalThe North Carolina Azalea Festival that will be held on April 6 – 10 in Wilmington is the oldest and largest festival in the Old North State. Dating back to 1948, this festival just gets bigger every year.

This spectacular five-day celebration will be loaded with celebrities and special events, such as the Cape Fear Garden Club’s Azalea Garden Tour, NC Azalea Historic Home Tour, and NC Azalea Festival Parade. The parade, which is the highlight of the festival, will be attended by more than 100,000. Visitors who brave the crowded streets will be rewarded with incredible floats, marching bands, circus animals, clowns, and celebrity sightings. Following the parade will be an all-day street fair, which is expected to draw more than 200,000. Participants will enjoy live musical and dance performances, a kids’ area, food vendors, dance contests, special exhibits, visiting ships, and lots of arts and crafts. Throughout this five-day event there will also be sporting events, coin shows, art shows, concerts, and much more!

The Queen’s coronation is on April 6. The Cole Bros Circus Big Top will run from April 7 – 10 and will feature international circus stars, acrobatics, live animals, and more. The Street Fair is held April 8 – 10 and features 330 arts and crafts vendors, children’s activities, and four stages. The Juried Art Show takes place April 8 – 10. Historic Home Tours will be offered April 9 & 10. There will be fireworks, food, and fun for all! Some events are free while others require tickets and sell out well in advance. For a schedule of all events, check out www.ncazaleafestival.org.

P.S. I almost forgot to mention that you’ll see lots of blooming azaleas all over greater Wilmington. Beautiful!
