NC Shipwreck Discovery

Have you heard the news? This month a shipwreck was discovered on the NC coast that is believed to date back to the American Revolution. If so, it is a rare find! Some artifacts have already been collected and are being analyzed, such as navigational instruments, bottles,  and pottery. An underwater robot and manned submarine were used to confirm the shipwreck discovery. Those involved in this project include Duke University Marine Lab, NC State, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The scientists have turned their data over to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Heritage Program so they can hopefully identify and date the ship.
