Scariest Haunted Attractions in America

Filed Under: Hints for Halloween Tagged With: Disney, Halloween, haunted attractions

So you’re fearless and looking for some spooky, scary fun? Well, okay, if you’re sure. These are NOT haunted houses.  I already revealed my scariest list earlier this month. This is my list of the scariest haunted attractions in America.

  1. Kersey Valley Spookywoods (Archdale, NC) 10/1 – 11/6 weekends only. Here’s their WARNING: Enter our attraction along a dark, winding dirt road, surrounded by haunted woods. If you are brave, roll down your windows to take in the night’s stale air… but beware! From the moment you arrive on Kersey Valley property, you are fair game to each and every haunted creature residing here. You will encounter special effects of light, sound, smell, dense atmosphere, air pressure, and may come in contact with liquid substances. Be prepared to be scared at the Hedge Swamp, Werewolf Forest, West Manor Hospital, Slaughter House, Funeral Home, and more! I have been there and done this one and it is pretty darn scary!
  2. Eastern State Penitentiary Halloween Nights features fifteen attractions inside their creepy, old cellblocks (Philadelphia, PA) from 9/24 – 11/13. This includes a Gargoyle’s Garden, The Crypt, two haunted houses, four theme bars and lounges, VIP experiences, and a Speakeasy in Al Capone’s former cell (which is reportedly one of the most haunted places at ESP). I have been here too researching one of my books and it is pretty creepy without adding in haunted attractions! Day tours of this historic site are offered year round so if you don’t want to be scared nearly to death, that is a good alternative.
  3. Woods of Terror (Greensboro, NC) offers ten different terrifying attractions from 9/17 – 11/6, plus a Midway with food, games, and more. I haven’t done this event but I have done a ghost hunt in these very woods that was scarier than any manmade event. Click here to read about the haunted history of these woods!
  4. The Field of Screams (Lancaster, PA) offers four frightening attractions from 9/10 – 11/13: Den of Darkness Horror Barn, The Frightmare Asylum Haunted House, Haunted Hayride, and Nocturnal Wasteland Haunted Trail.
  5. For more suitable family fun, I offer this last option, which is Disney’s Haunted Mansion. It has been transformed into the Nightmare Before Christmas for this year’s theme. Also nightly during October, there is Disney’s After Hours Boo Bash (Florida and California) from 9/3 – 10/31.
