The following is a list of the five scariest haunted houses to visit this Halloween–if you dare!
- Bates Motel & Haunted Hayride (Glen Mills, PA) will be open from 9/24 – 10/31. Attractions include the Bates Motel, Revenge of the Scarecrows Haunted Trail, Psycho Path, Zombie Hunt Laser Tag, and Double Edge Axe Throwing. The attraction has added four Escape Rooms (at another location) and Bates Mobile Adventures will come to you and will still scare the you-know-what out of you!
- Headless Horseman Hayrides & Haunted Houses (Ulster Park, NY) will be open from 9/25 – 10/31. The hayride will be replaced with a new, walking trail called The Haunting of Pumpkin Jack. Other scary attractions include the Lunar Motel, Night Shade, Glutton’s Diner, Mama Rosie’s Swamp Shack, Dark Harvest Corn Maze, Black Spider Circus Sideshow, Horseman’s Tomb, and Two Raven Manor. There are two Saturdays, Magic Moon Maze, marked as Children’s Day with lots of age appropriate stuff, including a Dinosaur Trail and Haunted Garden.
- Dent Schoolhouse (Cincinnati, Ohio) will be open from 9/19-10/31. The main attraction is the 100-year-old schoolhouse (that is haunted by a former janitor according to legend) that has been turned into one big scary, sophistated haunted house. The other attraction is the Queen City Slaughter Yard, which is certainly not for the faint-of-heart.
- Netherworld Haunted House (Norcross, Georgia) is open 9/24-11/13. New features in the Netherworld Haunted House include Rise of the NETHERSPAWN and Return to Planet X 3D. There is also Netherworld Laser Adventure (laser tag),Escape the Netherworld (escape rooms), Monster Museum, and gift shop.
- 13th Gate (Baton Rouge, LA) is open from 10/1-11/13 weekends only. The attraction features a life-like pirate ship, a stroll through the dangerous streets of Whitechapel, hidden subterranean passages filled with live snakes, and an outdoor, zombie-infested graveyard. The haunted house changes and grows from year to year so there may be even more terrifying surprises this year! Flashlight Fright Nights are on 11/5 & 11/6 and there is nightly entertainment (concerts and haunted games). The ticket cost includes Carnevil Haunted Midway, includes fire artists, food, and more (across the street from the haunted house). Other events include five-minute escape rooms and a VR asylum.
NOTE: All of these attractions have implemented COVID safety precautions, including surgical masks being worn under actors’ masks and costumes, no touching, increased airflow in the buildings, reduced capacity allowed, and masks are not mandatory but are encouraged to be worn by visitors. See specific protocols on each attraction’s website.
