In the first episode of Season Two of A Writer’s Journey: From Blank Page to Published, Sara and I picked up where we left off last season. Episode #15 (Season Finale) from AWJ was Traditional vs. Indie Publishing. This season, we have transitioned from writing a book to the business of publishing your book.
During today’s show we discussed five ways you can independently publish your book:
1. Traditional Indie Publishing. This is when you go it alone for the most part.
2. Assisted Self-Publishing. This is when you hire help for at least a couple of components, such as editing, book design/layout, book cover, and marketing.
3. Hire a Book Shepherd, such as Judith Briles (http://thebookshepherd.com/judith-services/ways-work-with-judith-briles.html) or Cathy Stucker (http://www.sellingbooks.com/book-shepherds-who-are-they-what-do-they-do-should-you-hire-one/)
4. Opt for Subsidy Publishing. Here’s a link to a good article about this option: http://www.sideroad.com/Information_Product/subsidy_publishing.html
5. Join an Author Collective. Here’s some good info on this option: http://www.ibpa-online.org/article/joining-forces-the-why-and-how-of-author-collectives/
As you will no doubt be able to tell from our interviews, Sara and I do not always agree with each other about writing, publishing, and marketing. But we do respect each other’s opinions and realize that what works for one writer may not be the best option for another writer. So get ready to listen, learn, and decide which option works best for you.
So I hope you’ll join us this season as we journey into the business of publishing. We look forward to helping you make your book as successful as possible!
