The Gift of Travel

Filed Under: Terrance Talks Travel Tagged With: Cheap Travel

Would you like to give or get the gift of travel this Christmas or for Hanukkah or for graduation or an anniversary or birthday or whatever the occasion? Here are five easy ways to do it:

1. Sign up for http://www.mytab.co/. Expedia recently launched this service which allows friends and family to gift you travel cash towards a specific trip. MyTab helps you create a trip, collect and save money for your trip, and book your trip. Cool, right? It is linked to social media to help spread the word about your trip and how loved ones can contribute by purchasing MyTab online gift cards. Other options include Living Social’s Winter Warm Up Deals (www.livingsocial.com/escapes/p/winter-warm-up) and Groupon’s Getaways (www.groupon.com/getaways).

2. Join loyalty programs to rack up hotel points and airline miles. Many offer bonus miles/points for enrolling, plus year-round incentives.

3. Sign up for e-mailers that detail periodic specials, such as TravelZoo (http://www.travelzoo.com/)  and Independent Traveler (http://www.independenttraveler.com/). I sent my parents to Greece for a week last year for just $499pp including roundtrip airfare from the U.S., accommodations, all admission costs/sightseeing, and some meals. That’s seventy percent off normal fares!

4. Look for special seasonal offers. For example, Travelocity is giving travelers a $200 travel voucher if they book a hotel room or hotel and air package before Christmas. http://travelocity.com

5. Invest in a budget travel reference, such as The Encyclopedia of Cheap Travel: Save Up to 90% on Lodging, Flights, Tours, Cruises, and More! For less than $15 (or $9 in ebook format), the reference will reveal how to find the lowest fares on every type of travel. Also, learn how to avoid paying single supplements, find awesome adventure trips, score hotel rooms and vacation rentals cheap, discover how to go all over Europe on the cheap, learn where the best deals are in the Caribbean, discover how to score five-star cruises cheap, and much more. http://www.amazon.com/Encyclopedia-Cheap-Travel-Second-Flights/dp/0615514723/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1323916327&sr=1-2
