Three FREE Things To Do This Weekend in the Carolinas

Filed Under: Mostly Ghostly Tagged With: Festivals, Halloween

 Dinosaur Kingdom (Virginia)

1. Mayberry Days. This weekend is the annual Mayberry Days celebration in Mt. Airy, NC. Everything is free, including the parade that starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Andy Griffith Museum is worth a peek and brave souls may want to watch the Snappy’s Pork Chop Sandwich Eating Contest. The record to beat is 8! For more info: www.surryarts.org/mayberrydays

2. Museum Day. Just a reminder to an earlier post…more than 150 worthy museums will waive admission fees on National Museum Day on September 29. Also happening on 9/29, visitors will receive FREE admission to 397 national parks to celebrate National Public Lands Day. www.smithsonialmag.com/museumday and www.publiclandsday.org

3. Start getting ready for Halloween. Seriously! The countdown is on! Monday is October 1st. Get out the decorations. Start planning your party. Get the invites out. Plan your costume. If you’re looking for an easy out, check out www.costumesupercenter.com. Not only do they have great prices, but the selection is way better than seasonal Halloween costume shops. Choose from all kinds of cool outfits, such as 1920s theme, zombie, wolf, mermaid, zookeeper…and the list goes on 1,500+ ideas!
