Three Reasons to Vacation at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

It’s summer vacation planning so the next few blogs will be devoted to vacation planning. There are so many reasons to go to Cape Hatteras National Seashore but here are my top three:

1. Birds! There are more than 360 species in the seashore.
2. Lighthouses! This summer both Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Bodie Island Lighthouse (pictured here) will be open for self-guided tours/climbs.
3. Pirates! Or rather the ghost of a pirate…A strange light is sometimes seen on Ocracoke Island at Teach’s Hole. Some have even claimed to see a pirate specter that is believed to be the ghost of Blackbeard, who was killed in this area by the Royal Navy.
