Three Reasons to Visit Cape Fear Beaches

Filed Under: Nautical News Tagged With: Beaches, Carolina, Wilmington

Carolina Beach BoardwalkIf you’re looking for a beach destination in the Carolinas, here are three reasons you should consider Cape Fear beaches.

FYI: Cape Fear Beaches include Wrightsville and Pleasure Island: Carolina, and Kure.

1. Proximity to Wilmington (my favorite NC town). Cape Fear beaches are roughly twenty minutes from Wilmington’s 230-block Historic District.

2. Wrightsville Beach has been named one of the “Top 20 Surf Towns” in the world  by National Geographic Traveler and one of the “Last Best American Beach Towns.” FYI: There are surf camps for kids 6 – 11 during the summer, as well as for teenagers and adults. In 2015, the first Pro-Am Paddleboard Surfing Competition was held.

3. Pleasure Island boasts a boardwalk that made Budget Travel’s list of “America’s Most Awesome Boardwalks.” Renovations are underway to add even more great stuff, such as landscaped coves, public art, historical/educational kiosks, picnic areas, gazebos, cool-off stations, swings, and more. Also noteworthy: Carolina Beach State Park (one of few places where rare Venus Flytrap grows), Loggerhead turtle nesting/hatching location, Fort Fisher Historic Site, excellent fishing, and the biggest music festival, Carolina Beach Music Festival, on the NC Coast is held in June.
