My Top Five Picks for Where to Go for Halloween
Finally, we can travel again and what better time to go and enjoy some spooky fun than Halloween! Here is my Top Five list of where to go Halloween 2022:
1. DUBLIN, IRELAND
Ireland is considered to be the birthplace of Halloween. It began with the Celtic festival of Samhain, a celebration of fire and feasting that marked the end of the summer and the beginning of winter. During this time, the Celts believed that spirits could move between the world of the living and the dead. The Celts disguised themselves in costumes to confuse and scare off the roaming ghosts, fairies, hobgoblins and demons.
Derry~Londonderry has become the most exciting Halloween celebration in Europe and voted by many as the best Halloween destination in the world. Enjoy banshee bike rides, fireworks, inflatable monsters, live music, storytelling, creative costumes, and much more.
The famous Bram Stoker Festival will once again bring fun and adventure to the Irish capital over the Halloween weekend as it celebrates the Dublin-born creator of Dracula.
At the Púca Festival thousands of people will gather at locations across Meath and Louth counties to celebrate Halloween with the lighting of the Samhain fires on the Hill of Ward, music, light displays, storytelling, food, and drink.
Dublin is a good starting point for Halloween celebrations. In Meath, about an hour’s drive from Dublin, there are numerous events at The Spirits of Meath Festival.
2. SLEEPY HOLLOW, NEW YORK
This village in Westchester County, NY is about 30 miles up the Hudson River from Manhattan. Sleepy Hollow is best known for author Washington Irving’s tale of the Headless Horseman. There is a lot to do in Sleepy Hollow around Halloween, including the Horseman’s Hollow attraction that’s open select evenings in October. Also, you can take a spooky tour by lantern light of the town and its cemetery. Enjoy haunted hayrides, live music, a Halloween parade, farmers markets, costumed 5K run, street fairs, and more!
3. SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS
Just fifteen miles from Boston lies the small town of Salem, Massachusetts, made famous by the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Although known as The Witch City, Salem has plenty of other Halloween stuff to do every October during its “Salem Haunted Happenings”, such as Halloween cruises, Haunted Footsteps Ghost Tours, Salem Witch Museum, tarot card readings, Gallows Hill, Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery, Witch House, Salem Horror Fest, Salem Wax Museum, Festival of the Dead, Witches Halloween Ball, International Monster Museum, New England Pirate Museum, Salem Halloween Museum, Hawthorne Hotel Halloween Ball, and much more.
4. LONDON, ENGLAND
London is the perfect place to celebrate Halloween and there is so much to do, such as the London Dungeon, Jack the Ripper Walking Tour, Halloween Cruise on the River Thames, Royal Maritime Greenwich Ghost Tour, London Ghost & Vampire Tour, Harry Potter Tour, haunted pub crawls, London Eye (to get aerial view of decorations and costumes). They take Halloween costumes seriously so you will see some spectacular costumes and creatures!
5. SAVANNAH, GEORGIA
Savannah is one of my favorite cities anytime but most especially at Halloween. It is crazy, spooky fun! Take a Ghosts & Graveyards Tour, haunted pub crawl, hearse ghost tour, Terror Plantation Haunted House, All Ages Halloween Party, Fall Fest, Haunted Forest, SCAD Film Festival, Wormsloe Plantation Noble Bones Scavenger Hunt, and much more!

BONUS! Yummy Recipe…Pumpkin Gingerbread
This is so easy and so good you won’t believe it. All you need is two ingredients, five minutes prep time, and twenty minutes cook time.
*14.5 oz. box of gingerbread mix
*can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
Combine these two items only (do not add eggs, oil, butter, water, etc.) using an electric mixer. You can mix by hand but using an electric mixer makes the batter smoother and fluffier. Pour into round or square cake pan and cook for 20-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Top with whipped cream or dust with powdered sugar. I use the canned whipped cream so I can swirl it in a pretty pattern on top of the gingerbread and add Halloween sprinkles on top of the whipped cream. You can buy seasonal sprinkles that have Halloween theme designs and colors or you can just buy orange sprinkles. The gingerbread freezes well whole or in slices or serve and enjoy as soon as it is cool enough! Credit: The Seasoned Mom
Monster Mouth Recipe is great for kids and adults. I love how festive they look on the table. So fun! Also, it puts something healthy on the sweet table and it is easy and cheap to make. Win win! All you need is a jar of peanut butter (or any kind of butter you like, such as almond butter), red or green apples, and a bag of mini marshmallows. Cut the apple into slices. Spread a teaspoon or two of peanut butter on top of each slice.
Place the marshmallows in a row on top of the peanut butter and then add the apple slice on top of the marshmallows with peanut butter facing in so that it creates a mouth. Optional: Get creative and chip some teeth by cutting away a little bit of marshmallow or make pointy fang style teeth or have some missing teeth or whatever you feel like doing.
Add red food coloring to some of the teeth to look like blood, add a sliced strawberry as a tongue, use toothpicks to spear marshmallows (that are already shaved round) on top to create eyes (use black food coloring to make dot for pupil). Or you can buy fake eyeballs in any dollar store–just be sure you add a sign letting guests know if anything is not edible.
